FOCUS ON: YAK WOOL

Not sourced from sheep, yak wool comes from the Tibetan yak, a hardy bovine native to the high plateaus of Tibet, in the Himalayan region.

Its exceptionally soft undercoat is prized for its fine texture and luxurious feel, often compared to cashmere.

During the natural moulting season, generally in spring and summer, the animals are gently combed to collect the softest fibres from their undercoat, particularly around the belly.

This traditional process does not involve shearing or invasive treatments and allows the valuable fibres to be gathered naturally.

The yak has long been an integral part of life and culture among the local communities of the Himalayan highlands, including Sherpa people and traditional herders.

Its wool represents a natural resource deeply connected to the territory and its centuries-old traditions. Soft, warm, breathable and naturally hygroscopic, yak wool is a remarkable example of natural textile fibre.
